the fabulous tennis of amélie, goodbye

i think today i have lost oine of the few left reason to watch nowadays women’s tennis: amélie mauresmo (born 1979), the last romantic, announced her retirement from tennis circuit. her career had slowly fallen down in the latest years, due to various injuries, and she hasn’t won as much as she could do, also due to her long-lasting fragility, but her tennis style has always been magnificent, a triumph of classic elegance in this era of unstylish monotonous ball-beaters (<– does it sound as double meaning?!). moreover, she has always been a proudly outed lesbian, an example for everybody. vive la mauresmo!!

  1. She is really ugly though, so this is a good thing actually that she’s retiring… harsh, but true.

  2. well, i publish your comment cos i tend to accept every kind of opinion, but let me say your comment is rather inappropriate.

i mean, she isn’t exactly a beauty, but she wasn’t there for her look. she was a tennis player and probably the most beautiful tennis player of her generation, in terms of style and elegance on the field.
then she is also an outed lesbian, so all my respect and hands down.

and btw, i like beautiful women, but i am not here praising a poor conception of beauty.

    • i haven’t followed much tennis since Sabatini retired ;) but i believe Mauresmo got some crap for it publicly from other tennis players on the tour. you would think that the players would be used to it.. i mean, there are a number of gay women in tennis, though perhaps not as courageous to be actually out about it.

on the contrary, i did find her attractive. and anyway, it’s kind of immature to say that someone is ugly. just because you don’t find somebody attractive it doesn’t make them ugly.

  3. to be honest i don’t find her so attractive. i think that objctively you can’t define her as pretty… but she is not the ugliest person on earth… so one can like her or not.
